Artistic Dirtnap // Ernie Barnes 1938 – 2009

A former professional football player, artist Ernie Barnes is best known for his unique figurative style of painting and is widely recognized as the foremost African American artist. His work largely is connected to the situation comedy from the 1970’s Good Times. The painting shown during the closing credits is “The Sugar Shack” one of Mr. Barnes most famous pieces. I’ve been a fan for years and if you dont know now you know. Ernie Barnes had it! He will be missed.

Here are a few samples of his work.
